Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - great for value
This product does what it advertises for a great price, it's easy to setup and easy to use

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - DVD-VCR
This is an excellent product and one that is increasingly more difficult to find. I highly recommend it. It saved me space in my entertainment cabinet.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Best bang for the buck
After having done many searches looking for a combo upscanning player, I kept coming back to the Samsung as having a strong brand reputation, all the features you might want at a price point that is well below the other choices out there.

I have had the unit for about 1 month and so far it seems to be working as expected.

I did notice some of what seemed like compression noise but I have not had the time to fully investigate. All I can say is watching a DVD movie on my 42 inch LCD at 1080i was a very nice experience.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Good product
Would have rated 5 stars except for the remote control. It has rather sharp edges along the length of the remote, almost as though the edges were not filed. A small anoyance but uncomfortable to hold. Again, the main dvd/vcr player itself is better than good.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - BE WARNED!
Everything written about this unit in the other reviews is accurate. The combo player/recorder is an excellent example of a dying breed, is well crafted, and (I presume) performs to expectations. So why only 3 stars? Because no where in the description was the most important factor, that the V9800 is TUNERLESS. It must be used with another tuner source...like a set top box. Interestingly, I get cable from Time Warner through regular, in the wall, coax and all three of my HDTV's (Sony Bravia and 2 Sharps) have provisions for coax input. With separate DVD players and "traditional" VCR's this is no problem. Unfortunately I have not found any of the current combo players accepting of coax input for the VCR.
If you receive cable through a set top box this unit would be fine, and for under a $100 represents a nice value for the quality of build. My real gripe is with amazon for not being more diligent in spec'ing technical products that they sell. So 5 stars for Samsung and 0 stars for the amazonians!

Once again, anything Apple can make, the enterprising Dev Team can break: the brand-new firmware 2.2 has been jailbroken. QuickPwn should take care of everything, unless you're one of those unfortunate owners of the second-generation iPod touch, in which case you're out of luck at the moment. But everything else seems to be running fine—anybody here broken the new firmware yet? Let us know in the comments. [iPhone Dev, thanks Mehmet!]
